How These Lessons are designed...

 

1. Catchy title: THis title is meant to be rememberable.

 

2. rationale: Provide the lesson goal & tell why the goal is important. Explain the means - How the lesson activities will help students reach the goal.

 

3. materials: provide an exhaustive list, so that teachers will know exactly what materials to assemble before starting the lesson.

 

4. procedures: the procedures are for carrying out the lesson in detail, with numbered steps.

      A. explain to stuents why the new idea is valuable. provide a sample script - an example of what the teacher could Say to the students in appropriate language.

      B. Review or teach background knowledge some students may lack.

      C. model the new concept or strategy. provide a sample script. think aloud about how to solve a reading problem using the strategy, showing how you got the solution.

      D. provide simple practice under teacher guidance. this is often an engaging activity.

      E. extend practice to whole texts. motivate reading with an engaging booktalk, and then help students read a book, story, article, or chapter.

      F. assess learning individually to see if each student gets it. the assessment may be a checklist, a tast performed individually, or a quiz.

 

5. reference: provide all information readers need to track down the source.
